Schoeder Area?
 (United States)
I'm heading to the Schroeder area next weekend and was wondering how the fishing has been up there or if anyone has any suggestions. I've called a fly shop in Duluth and they said there has some (very few) fish caught on the Cross and the Temperance. If anyone has any words of wisdom I'd love to hear from you.

Hi enochpeterson and welcome!

Who did you talk to at the Shop, was it John?  If it was John, then that was the owner and usually has a good pulse on what is happening in the area.

I don't do too much fishing up the North shore anymore.  But during normal summers, the water gets a little on the low side, but with the drought conditions, the river are even looking worse.  Most of the NS streams are rain fed and stay cool in the shady areas (which usually means the upper portions of the river) or in deep pools.  The low water levels and crazy heat we've been having is putting alot of stress on the local fish.

Otherwise, in the late summer I always went to some type of terrestial pattern, beetles, crickets, hoppers, ants, etc on top.  I liked to use pass lakes (small wet fly) type patterns in the deeper slower pools.  One good thing about fishing the NS streams in the summer, you can pretty much wet wade most of it, so that will cool you down.  Fishing the mouths early in the morning can surprise you with a small laker or other trout.

Good luck out there and be safe!
