New to Rochester ares- where to fish?  (United States)

Hey all,

I just moved to Rochester from ND, and can't wait to get out and fly fish.  I've heard to go down by Lanesboro.  What are a few of the better places to go? (don't want to take anyones spots)

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Re: New to Rochester ares- where to fish?  (United States)

Duschee and Gribben creeks are close to Lanesboro and are generally pretty good streams.  Gribben has a 12 - 16 Inch protected slot limit, so keep that in mind if you intend to keep any fish.  Big top water flies like stimulators, or other terestrial flies are doing well right now.  I've also had good results with orange, red, pink, and olive scuds.  If your in to streamers I've heard that sculpins are working well now as well as anything olive colored.

Getting away from the roads and traveling farther up stream, off the well beaten path, more often than not will be rewarded with better fishing and fantastic views.  Take your camera!!

Re: New to Rochester ares- where to fish?  (United States)

Hi , my names Aaron and I'm new to this site. I am not new to Rochester and know many places to fish around town. I too have heard lot's about Lanesboro but never been there. I have started fly fishing for northern pike, musky and bass. I read they are catching northerns in Duschee creek? Any other spots in Lanesboro to catch them? Planning on going down there next week. Thanks, Aaron

Also wondering if I'm gonna get tagged for not having a trout stamp if I'm not fishing for trout? Do I need to buy a trout stamp if I'm fishing down there? Thanks, aaron

Here's a link to the club I started if anyone's interested:  kayakangler.com     and the club is called: Rochester Mn Kayak Fishing Association

Thanks again, Aaron

kayakbassfishing.com :  Is another great website

Re: New to Rochester ares- where to fish?  (United States)

Hi guys, there are a bunch of places to fish in Rochester. Mainly bass and panfish. Anywhere along the Zumbro, some places better than others, Silver Creek just east off college view road, mining pits off of 2nd st. These are just a few. Let me know if you have any questions. Went down to Lanesboro, fished a little had a couple follows, beautiful area, Aaron
