Wisconsin inland streams have opened up to catch and release.  Anyone know if the Nam was covered with ice this year or is it open?

Took a little trip on 3/10 to the Namekagon River near Hayward, WI.  The water is pretty much ice free with some ice on the slower sections of the river.  It is fishable, but use caution because the water is still extremely cold and the air temps won't help either.

If the weather stays near average temps, the Namekagon River will be in good shape next week.  Feels good to finally get out and cast the fat line around again, can't wait.

Thanks for the report.  I am planning on checking out the Namekagon this weekend.  I will be up there for a work get away.  I just checked out the USGS site and it looks like the water levels went up with this warm weather, I just hope it comes down a bit, or clears up before the weekend.  I have fished it a few times and am looking forward to it.

Without giving away any "secret spots"  what sections did you fish?  Did you get any fish?  I did pretty well on the Kinnie on Friday and Saturday despite the off colored water.

I was fishing from the Sealey area downstream to where some backroads cross the river.  I didn't really fish it by wading, just from shore and not any length of time.  I was in town for some other reasons, but I couldn't resist the chance to wet a line at least.  I usually go when the river is completely ice free, which should be this week or next.  But like I said in my earlier post, it is still fishable, but the water is cold.  I don't think you'll have a problem with high water.  Of all the years fishing the Nam in the spring, I don't remember ever seeing it get real bad.  Been there when there have been hard rains while out on the water and the river did raise, but was still fishable.

Just got back from Hayward.  I was able to get away from the family to fish a little.

I fished all new water for me.  I started near Telemark Resort, I caught over a dozen Brookies all between 6 and 10 inches.  There were a few bigger fish but they were pretty spooked, they also may have been browns I couldn't tell looking into the water.  The water at 11:00AM was 36 degrees.  I wanted to try some more new water so I checked out a section of the river near Leanords.  I hooked one fish and it twisted off while I was trying to get my hands on it.  All in all a good day.  I can't wait to get up there again soon.

Thanks for the report mcconket.  Sounds like you had a wonderful day.  The section of river by Telemark is nice brook trout waters.  Did you fish at the little parking area right near Telemark.  It has a small foot trail leading up to the river and some signs about the brook trout restoration project.  There are also what looks like some fish holding ponds?  That is a nice little area.  There was nice work done in the upper parts of the Namekagon.

Yep.  That is where I fished.  I have a feeling the brook trout aren't that thick in there all season.  They seemed to be holding where a couple of streams come into the main river and there was less ice down river from there.
