Re: how deep?  (United States)
It depends on what sections your fishing.  If your staying in the branches, you can get by with some hip waders, but I would definetly recommend at least waist high waders for those deeper areas.  I wear my chest waders when Im down there, but roll them down to my waist and that works good for me.

When you start getting into the confluences and the rivers starts to widen, then the river starts getting a little deeper with less firmer bottoms, but still can be easily waded close to the banks.  So I recommend chest waders rolled down to the waist or least waders to the waist area.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Hip waders will suffice for almost all of southeast Minnesota.  If you're in up to your waist, you're in too deep (in fact, probably where the trout were.

Follow up with another stupid question...how cold...rubber or neoprene?  Does it really make a difference?  Thanks in advance

Re: how deep?  (United States)
Hopefully, you won't be in the water so much that you will get cold.  I try to rarely wade as to not disturb the fish.  The more you are out of the water, the better.

Go with rubber as they will be cheaper and cooler than neoprene.  Neoprenes are great for steelhead and duck hunting.

Has anyone tried to replace the felt on the bottom on the boot? I seen there are kits available, and wasnt sure how reliable they were.
