Week 2 - 2006 early catch and release

Fished S.E. January 7th and 8th with the same success as last weekend. 10 to 15 nice size rainbows between 12" to 15" with a couple browns mixed in. Everything I caught was on a gb pheasant tail or the gb psycho prince size #18 and #20. Saw quite a few small black midges but didn't see any rises this weekend. Water temp was 36 degrees in most places I checked but I did get a 38 degree reading in a feeder spring. Middle of the day bite seeems to be the best. Getting out early beats some folks to the spots but most action doesn't happen until 9 or 10 a.m. anyway. There were less guys out this weekend and most I talked to had limited success. Next weekend is sounding good again with above normal temps, maybe global warming isn't all that bad!
