The best reports are the ones that let others learn from your experiences.  Please use the Minnesota Fly Fishing Forums to post fly fishing questions. That way we can have fly fishing reports only here.  Minnesota Fly Fishing Reports has moved to a new forum. Minnesota Fly Fishing.

Re: Hay Creek

Howdy Folks. New to the fly fish MN forum and to the beautiful browns you guys have up north!  I'm an Atlanta native, well North GA, (1st time trout fishing in MN) and had the pleasure to hook up with a few of  the trout while visiting family this past weekend! Hit Hay Creek on Friday, 7/18, early morning overcast and great fishing! Not really anything rising, the water was a little stained, but great nymph fishing. Caught quite a few which put a big smile on my face! I hear the fishing is even better further south, can't wait till next time!

Re: Hay Creek

Like you RiverRock im a Southern boy in a Northern state. The fishing up here is awesome compared to where i come from(Northern Alabama). Theres a crap tons of streams, creeks, and rivers. Fishing in Bama is quite boring  seeing we have only one River(the Sipsey Fork) that hold trout for only a quarter of a mile or so. The trout are all stocked(stocked every month damn near) and they only reach about 12" tops before there robbed by the bait fishers.  Besides trout theres lots of variety of fish. Northerns, bass, carp, suckers, muskie...the list is rather nice.

Have you ever fished up in Smokey Mountains of Tennesse?

Re: Hay Creek

Hey there Daniel, ya'll do have quite a few fish to chose from in MN, I bet it does beat some Bama fishing.(stockers or not, sometimes you just need to feed the beast!) I've fished a few streams near Ashville NC, but none on the TN side of the Smokies. Those sure are some pretty mountains!

Tight Lines!

Re: Hay Creek

I helped build the boxes during a oneday event. They were installed a few weekends later by the DNR, if I remember correctly. But this was in 2006, so I might have my location all wrong. It was fun meeting some MNTU folks and helped out with some manual labor. Hay Creek doe have some new log jams, and certainly added to the experience. A little tough traversing around sometimes, but good nonetheless.

Hi Dave.  Stream trout season is closed in MN as of end of Sept.  It is illegal to fish in designated trout streams, such as Hay, at this time.
