main branch
 (N/A)
I was out on the main branch of the whitewater yesterday and had the best time of my life!  I decided to put the fly rod down for a couple hours and tried some spinners and caught 25+ rainbows.  Most were in the 10-15 inch range and only caught a few small browns.  It was a nice break from the frustrations of trying to learn to fly fish, but I'm not complaining.  I was catching them on spinners with gold blades and black bodies, I know silver is the norm for rainbows but i suppose anything is apt to work!

Sounds like a lot of fun.  Keep that fly rod in your hand, even when it's gets a little frustrating, it's the only way to get better.   I will say that fly fishing is not meant to replace other types angling methods, it's just another way of angling.  I do a lot of pike, bass and musky fishing and still have yet to pick up a spinning rod this year.  Yet it would be easy for me to pick up my baitcaster and pitch some tubes and pull fish out like mad, thats why I don't bring them with me on my boat.

No, I'm not against other angler methods and don't get into bashing other angling methods, be it spinning, handlining, whatever, I just like to see people out fishing and enjoying catching fish any way that is enjoyable to them.  Fishing is a lot fun and can't wait for my son to get a little bit older to show him the fat line!

I've  got the same afliction. I don't have it quite to the exclusive extream, yet, BUT, am very close. I live in the cities and bring both with no matter what I'm after smallies, panfish, trout. mostly. I find myself using the convetional gear less and less. Been fly fishing a litttle over two years, (used to fly fish sunnies and crappies as a kid). I don't know if it's the challenge or the tradition or what, but it is VERY enjoyable to catch fish on the flyrod.
