Tofte Area  (United States)
Modified By daniel on 9/9/2008 1:10:57 AM)
seeing this was my first time fishing the north shore ill give my first time north shore report from my first time experience.
The water was low!! Everyone said it was low but since this trip was planned for me i had to try to make the best of it. I fished several rivers starting at the Temperance going north to the Brule. Caught nothing but 6"-12" smallies.

Friday i fished the Temperance and brule, each from the mouth then upstream about 1 or 1 1/2 miles.  caught nothing but smallies.
Saturday i fished the mouth of the temperance for about 2 hours.saw a few pinks but none willing to take. a couple were also seen jumping around. i tried drifting a few patterns and tried stripping a few patterns but never hooked up.  that afternoon i went out on  a charter with my new father and brother in law.  we ended up "reeling in" 9 fish. 2 kings and 7 lakers. biggest fish being a 10lb laker. By the way im not a charter guy.
Sunday(today) i checked the temp for more pinks(couldnt see that anymore had moved in) and fished the cascade way upstream from the mouth and did not do well.
i was hoping the pinks might of made more a presents while i was there but was i let down. I will say for being on the north shore for the first time it was amazingly beautiful which easily made up for the fishing.  It truely shows the variety you can get in Minnesota when compared to the corners of the state.

hopefully the shore will get some rain this weekend while i slave away at work. If so i might make another appearance next  weekend.

Hey, I'm heading up to the north shore this coming weekend. Can you fish those rivers up there at this time?

Re: Tofte Area  (United States)
You should be there at about the right time frame.  But remember a lot depends on how the spring weather goes.  We got plenty of snow this year, but will we have a late spring or early spring or are we going to get a lot of rain or no rain.  Too many factors.  The dates you mentioned should put you guys in the mix of things for sure.  I tell people between mid April and mid May.  Usually around the same time people are smelting along the north shore and park point, so watch for those reports as well.

Good luck.
