Carp on Flyrod
 (United States)
Looking for advice on catching carp with a flyrod. I understand it is a rare event that a carp will hit a spinnerbait, so I have been trying to use larger, slow moving flies in an attempt to hook one. I would be interested in hearing if anyone knows of techniques to entice them.

Carp are very sensitive fish, you have to be stealthy and cast lightly.  If one senses danger it will send out pheremones to warn other carp.  Fish morning or early evening in warm water.  They eat whatever bugs are around ie damsel fies, scuds, shrimp, prince nymphs and also corn or bread.   Get the latest issue of fly fisherman it has a big article about carp fishing.  Have fun!
tight lines!

I'll look into that. I had a carp try to inhale a slow moving wooly bugger last year, but snapped the line. Thanks for the tips, I'll give it a try.

Also, keep in mind to present the fly when the fish is feeding alng the bottom. This helps to prevent spooking them. A local fly shop has some funky, muddy colored buggers and have started using them.
