Spring is upon us!!!!!
 (United States)

Soon there will be carp!!!!  A great fish to catch on the fly rod.

Start by reading, Carp on the fly. Then, seek and destroy!!! Well, not really destroy, catch and release.

Ah yes, the freshwater bonefish.  I'm definetly setting aside some time to catch a few of these.  I'm just trying to find the right areas around the Duluth area where I have some fly fishing access.

I've seen some giants in the estuararies in the Duluth/Superior Harbor.  I just have to figure out the timing, getting close.

Any particular common flies that you would recommend?

When I target carp, I have good luck with the yarn salmon egg flys. White or yellow so far. I caught one by surprise on a small olive woolly bugger. That was the first one. I gonna try everything this year.

Re: Spring is upon us!!!!!

Hi im new to these forums. Im glad to see theres somewhat of a fan-base for catching these fish on the fly. I was wondering if any one can tell me what the situation is here. I live in middle minnesota in the park rapids area and theres a lake in town that has a somewhat small suker population. Id like to try and catch a few but im kindof lost as of where to start. I havnt really fly fished at all except for panfish. I was wondering if you could give any suggestions on how you vary your equipment for carp/ suker fishing? like the length of your leader or tippit and the lb test you like to use. Do you think that suckers are alot less picky about the size tippets and the types of leaders you use? I have a small case of flys and im wondering where i should start. I belive these fish might be spawning at the moment but its hard to tell. They stay really close to shore (but there easily scared away) and they dig holes in the sand bottom. to tell you the truth i didnt even know that sukers were able to live under lake conditions. theres no rivers connected anywhere. how did they get here??/ anyways thanks for you help.
