Deciever or Clouser for bass?
 (United States)

Anyone have experience with using both?  I catch a few bass on both, but tend to catch more pike on the decievers, but my decievers are generally larger, so that might be the reason.  They are two different styles, but intended to imitate the same bait, minnows.

Does anyone have a particular situation why they would put on a clouser instead of a deciever?

I think Deciever was the fly of choice last weekend, in Duluth, for the smallies!

The majority of the time when I fish for Pike or Bass I'll tie on a good sized Clouser.   There are always those time that I throw on a deciever just for fun though.

Do you have a tip for making them weedless? I am guessing there is a "kit" type thing I could purchase at Bass Pro/Cabelas, that might make that happen. I was river fishing and lost one a few days ago.

When I tie a clouser I head cement after each step to strengthen it then use a strong tippet when fishing with it.  Haven't lost one yet in the weeds.  An easy way to make them weedless is tie in a piece of 20 to 30 lb line on the curve of the hook shank, tie your fly then loop it around the hook and tie it in by the eye of the hook.  It works really well.
