Crappie Flyfishing
 (N/A)
I've found a few lakes for flyfishing crappies in the summer - it's good fun and I don't feel guilty about keeping a share of them because they can really sustain themselves.  Contrary to my user name - I'm using minnow imitations that sink (obviously)  - I'm getting excited for the ice-out.  I have tied a few patterns for ice-fishing and have been realatively successful.  Does anyone else ty ice-fishing patterns?

Re: Crappie Flyfishing

Hmmm, I've always wanted to try my flies I use during open water in the winter, but never have tried it yet.    I've always stuck with the jigs and the normal stuff, but using flies thru the ice sounds interesting.

What flies are you using thru the ice?  I fish a small lake that has a good population of crappies and can catch them all day long, so it might be a good place to try a fly or 2.  Do you tip the flies with something or just use them plan.  It just sounds interesting to try some flies thru the ice for crappies, please let us know.

Maybe I can spool up one of my ice fishing rods with some sinking fly line

I tied a zug bug of sorts - I say this because I added some rubber legs to it and they seem to like it better - I haven't tried it plain - I usually tip it with gloden rods - I find them to be a little more productive then wax worms - that sinking line idea sounds interesting
