New to the board
 (United States)

Greetings all!

I'm new to the board and new to MN (sort of).  I am from Valley City, ND but recently moved up to Eveleth,MN for the fly fishing, grouse hunting and to marry my wonderful fiancee.  I look forward to figuring out all of these streams, and if anyone wants to get out there on the water in this area, shoot me a PM or message me on this board.  My brother and I fish a lot in the Detroit Lakes area around our family lake place too for bass, walleye, panfish and muskie, so I'm not a total MN newb.

I look forward talking with all of you on all things flyfishing!

Hi njsimonson and welcome to the board!

Being in Eveleth, it will hard for you not to find a place to fish, a lot of good lakes in your area.  And no matter which way you drive your always run into some water   And to boot, your that much closer to Rainy Lake and the river, love that area.

There is a lake just outside of Eveleth called Ely Lake.  Great bass lake, with both smallies and largemouth, decent pike and some good walleye action.  The water is very clear compared to most of the lakes up that way.  On a nice calm day, I think you could see at least 10 ft down.  This lake hosts one of our bass league nights, very fun lake to fish.

Tight lines and keep on fishing!

TFM -

Ely Lake - Right on, man - right on!  I landed a 25" walleye there, just after New Years during my month off between jobs, along with some smaller ones through the ice.  I had excellent luck fishing there on my trips up last summer as well.  Lots of 2-4 pound bass of both varieties.  And love that water quality between there and St. Mary's you can see 20 ft down!  It also seems like every little puddle has a good population of crappies and gills in it around here, ice fishing was solid steady action until late January (until these ridiculous cold fronts started coming thru every 36 hours!).  Hopefully we'll stable out here soon.

Anyhow, thanks for the welcome.  I'll be checking in often.
