Waders
 (United States)

Hello Minnnesota..I am temporarily working in Minnesota and would like to try fishing some while I am here.  I will probably be spending most of my time north of Minneapolis.

I am new to fly fishing but have done it just enough to know that I like it and want to learn more.  I have a pair of  breathable waders and wading boots and was wandering if these are appropriate, or do I need a different type of wader.  I will be restricted to wade fishing and any suggestions as to where a novice needs to spend his time would be appreciated.

This is a very pretty state and I am hoping to see more of it.  Thanks in advance for your input.

Re: Waders
 (N/A)
You'll be fine with breathables for most of the summer months.  In the spring and fall, the waters start to cool down as well as the weather.  So neoprenes waders work good then.  But then again, putting some long underwear on or fleece pants will get by when using breathables.

I know there are some trout streams near the metro area, but not familiar with names and places though.  You could head to the mississipi near Monticello, MN.  Only been there a couple of times just passing through, but it looks wadeable along the shore and hear of people fishing from shore and wading for bass.  Never done it myself, but it's worth exploring, that section above the twin cities on the ole' miss is one of the best smallmouth rivers in the country with it's special regs.

Good luck and be safe out there.
