Welcome AlamoJack and ebbebeb to the forums.
Those are some great suggestions and starting points ebbebeb. I have a binder that I keep of lakes I want to try and laks that I have tried and use the printouts from the DNR Lake finder, along with the creel survey they do on lakes. You have to take the creel surveys with a grain of salt, because there are too many factors that come into play when they trap net or seine. But they do give you a great general feeling about a lake and what to expect. Their website is http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/lakefind/index.html
I second the book that ebbebeb mentioned, good starting points as you learn your local water and what wisconsin and minnesota have to offer.
