Twin cities fly fishing for bass.  (United States)

Does anyone have any recommendations on descent bass or northern fishing within an hour of  the metro area? I know there are tons of good lakes but I was wondering about rivers and streams that are wadeble. I'de love to get a bass or a northern on the end of my fly line.

Oooo, I liked to get some info on metro area lakes as well.  Well at least ones that can fished from shore or some easy wading.  I head down to the cities quite a few times during the year and have always wanted to take my fly rod along and steal a few hours of fly fishing some ponds/lakes right in the metro area :)

 while it is partialy trout water, the Vermillion closer to Hastings could befun.the st.croix. minnehahha creek, the mississppi down by the ford dam. the minnesota river in fort snelling park holds some nice smallies.
as far as lakes, i don't know jack. but i am going out on lake elmo in the am, will let ya know... -josh

Thanks Josh. I've wondered about the lower part of the vermillion. What parts of Minnehaha? I live in the uptown area and haven't seen much that looks too fishable in my neck o the woods. I'm gonna go out tomorrow and give somewhere a shot, just gotta figure out where now. Probably the Minnesota.

As far as some lakes go, I was frequencing Harriet and Lake of the Isles since they are right here, but the weeds this summer has made it nearly impossibe for off shore fishing. Bummer. The off shore is a little easier @ Harriet, but Isles holds some big fish too. I've mostly done conventional fishing in a canoe on both lakes. Caught , never landed, some huge muskees. We've also caught some 3 to 5 pound bass in Harriet. As far as other good lakes for off shore I really don't know. I've searched and searched for lakes with as good of access with no luck. I'm sure there are some hidden gems out there tho.

Went to fort snelling sunday and fished the confluence of the mn and ms. Was lost without any kind of structure to look for and such big, open water. Had a good day throwing big bass bugs. Good practice. I was using weighted and unweighted buggers, streamers, and tried a popper,but like i said, without the structure around i didn't really know what to do. Great day all in all tho. Snelling lake looked good. Lilly pads all over the place and i did see one descent bass which did make me get the rod out. No luck tho.

Drove by lake harriet on my way home and the weeds were down so I've been there every morning since then. More good practice w/ bass/pike flies. Caught 1 10- 12 inch bass on a micky finn. They've been out w/ the weeder every day so hopefully it'll get better. The outer weed line is about 100 feet off shore and about waste deep @ the inner weed bed on the south/south east side. A kick boat could be perfect if the winds weren't too bad.

 I've been trying some 5-7 inch bright streamers in an area that I've seen some monster (4' plus) muskies in. Don't know how i would land it but I could figure it out. I've lost many a lure with a great splash on that lake.
