Any Action?
 (United States)

I was just wondering if anybody has any suggestions on some good water, I looking to teach my Dad to fly fish, and looking for some good water down south to show him on.

Thanks.

Whereabouts down south?  Like in the twin cities area or like around Rochester or even further south?

Are you looking to do some trout fishing? or other species when the opener comes around?

I'm from the Twin Cities area, and I would like to do some trout fishing, so anywhere somewhat close would be better.  We are willing to drive down towards the Rochester area if needed.

Re: Any Action?

If you want, you can just over the border to the Willow River and Kinni, which are some decent trout streams, but you'll need a Wisconsin license.    You also have a designated trout stream, Vermillion which is SE of the twin cities near Farmington.  I have never fished this river and would assume it would be fished pretty heavily.  But just because its close to the Cities, doesn't mean that it get alot of fishing pressure.  Access to the rivers might be limited and the river makeup might make it harder to fish, which turns alot of people away.  I would try asking a local fly shop if they have any info on this river and let us know what you find out.

If you take at a look at the SE Minnesota DNR trout maps, you'll start seeing more designated trout streams the further you move down to Rochester and past.  Where you'll find many fishable and wadeable streams.

I've been down to the Whitewater a fair amount and is a nice place to fly fish, with plenty of room for casting and pleny of fish to catch.  It might be a little drive, but you can make a nice day trip out of it.

That is my suggestions, but someone else might be able to chime in and give their suggestions.
