I've hitting the Brule on and off this past week and probably this week as well. Different sections are producing some great surface action, but it depends on where your at when they start coming off. Last week we hit a rare morning hatch of Hex's and the brook trout and some browns were going crazy. Had some clients out that day and were able to hook into some real decent brook trout and browns, but it was only in a 2 block stretch and that was it.
I'll be heading down on Tuesday (tomorrow) night to Brule, so if anyone is interested in joining me for night, your more then welcome. I'll most likely be taking my canoe down to the Big Lake access and fishing for a few hours. I can always use any extra hand portaging the canoe and gear.
Call me at 218-590-1712 or email me at ouitdee@yahoo.com if anyone is interested.

Hey, I am new to fly fishing so I dont know too much. I am headed out to the Brule on Friday to hopefully hammer some Browns. What kind of flies are best for the Hex? I was fishing the Sucker river up the north shore this evening and that was pretty good, I got into some Brookies. I am falling in love with fly fishing. Are there any websites that you recommend to feed my obsession?

Go down and talk to John at the Great Lakes Fly Company and tell him Carson aka TheFlyMaster said I need some Hex spinners, duns, emergers and nymphs. He should remember the ones that I got from him and have been using the past 2 weeks. Nymphs are good flies to use during the late afternoon or during the day when it's cloudy, but don't be afraid to try duns, emergers during the day as well. At night is when the big boys come out to play and they usually tell you what they want, whether it's emergers, duns or spinners.
Oh and ask him if he can make more 'Hex wiggle nymphs'. He quite tying them, but I was having good luck with them until a few huge browns just ripped them off my line, so I'm out. So he might give you dirty looks, because of all the people I've been sending to him looking for the famous 'Hex Wiggle Nymph'

Otherwise I haven't found a very good world wide fly fishing only forum. They're out there, just can't find one I like to visit alot. The only other one I check out is http://www.theflyfishingforum.com/.
I only use sites that don't have any restrictions on what you can say and what you can't, like doing a bad review on product and that product happens to be one of the sponsors of the site.
If your up for a canoe float down the Brule, there are some good short sections that can be easily floated in 3-5 hrs, depending on how the fishing is. So this can be easily started in the afternoon. I like the stones bridge to big stretch, but Big Lake to Winnebajou is a great trip as well. Night fishing usually starting around 8 pm being on the water and setting up for the night bite. and last for a 2-3 hours, I don't normally stay past midnight, unless I don't work the next day.
So that goes for anyone on the board, just send me an email and if I'm not taking clients out, your more then welcome to join me. I just love going fly fishing.
Tight lines!
Hey Outidee this is John. I was over there again last night but it was slower than Tuesday. There were some bugs coming off but it was a 45 min window and then over.
At some point I realized the fish switched from taking duns to spinners. A good tip might be to check the water surface now and then and make sure your fly matches the stage of the hatch the bugs are in.
Hi John! What times were there at?
And that is good advise to use, thanks. I remember you checking the water quite regurlarly on our trip down
