preston area
(United States)
anyone of you guys ever fished there? im planning on heading down there on Saturday and Sunday and was just wondering before i go and spend the money on gas if that area is any good. looks like ill be staying in the maple springs campground so the root river and forestville creek will probably be the target. Is this area worth the haul?
any experience will be apprienced.
thanks fellas

Re: preston area

well, since it seems as if im the only person to have fished this area now i will say the south branch of the root is a wonderful stream to fish.
Saturday we started out browsing forrestville creek all the way up to where the spring gushes out of the base of a bluff, what a awesome sight!! Seeing forrestville creek was as clear as gin, we decided not to bother ourself with it and quicked moved over to the root knowing the water would a easier color to fish. After fishing 5 or 6 hours and only taking three fish between the two of us we called it quits.....truthfully speaking it took about 5 hours to confirm a pattern to go with and 1 hour to lose the three flies of our "hot" pattern that caught the three fish we caught.....GREAT DAY!!!! j/k
Today, back on the root again, was alot better we ended up finding one fly of the "hot" pattern and quickly caught three fish with it. after losing it i decided i wouldnt fish anymore without it seeing i had already went throught just about all my other patterns without a fish touching a single one of the them.
2 hours later and a trip to gander mountain we were fishing the whitewater system just as small storm had passed through, fishing it for about three hours we landed a couple fish and that was it.
all in all a fun weekend!
so anyone fill like showing me up by telling me their awesome pattern(s) they fish on the root or whitewater??
p.s. our so called great pattern was a flashback PT, they wouldnt touch a PT without the flash.
i did throw a few dries but i did not have any bwo's(which had to be the fly they were rising too), i did have some caddis and they did draw many strikes(misses) but the only thing that would attempt to take it wasnt any bigger than 9 ".
cheers,
Daniel
