Hi all, I am heading to your fine area for a week @ the end of Septermber thru the 5th of October. I was hoping to do some fly fishing but I would like to avoid a guided trip if at all possible. Would any of you be so kind as to point me in the right direction? I see that the Vermillion river is close to where I am staying, is that a good fly fishing river? If any body has time to fish with an out of towner that would be great and I would make it up to you.
I appreciate any help that is offered and I thank you in advance.

thanks for the insight jrs. I was hoping that there would at least be a catch and release season. We have one here due to a technicality; on the south fork of the boise river it closes to Rainbow trout fishing in November but it stays open for White fish so we can still catch R. trout as long as we release them.
Might have try out the Smallie fishing. I bet if it's hot it is probably a blast!
Off of the subject of fishing, What are some other entertaining outdoor activities around the area?
Welcome fly_fish_idaho.
Small game hunting opens up in the middle of Sept. So grouse, rabbits and other small game is open to hunting. I'll know I'll be fishing still, early fall is prime time for catching big smallies on the fly and really good walleye fishing.
So flymaster, do you recommend the upper portion of the mississippi for the Smallies or are there better places to go? I will be staying in the Broklyn Park area. Who would you recommend I book a Walleye trip with? I see that they are all about the same price.
