Fall/Winter
 (United States)

First of all, I have a hard time believing this board doesn't get more action!!  I see posts with 100 plus views and 2 posts, come on.  I wish I had more insight on these topics to share, hopefully one day.  The people that DO POST are awesome and their helpfulness is very much appreciated.   Thanks fly master.

I have stated before that my minnesota fly fishing as been limited due to family concerns, but I am planning to hit it hard this fall.

My question is after hopper season sept/oct whats the best presentation is southeastern minnesota, especially white water systems and the forestville state park area??  I am assuming sub surface stuff mostly.

I'll have to agree with jacksdada, but I've never fished in the SE Minnesota area in the fall time.  But as usual in the fall we can get periods of warm weather which might bring out some minor hatches of bigger flies and some great last season hopper action  But the norm is usually small flies like trico and midges.  So I would assume small pheasant tails, hares ear, and caddis larvae imitation will still produce.  They are all present all year round, so you can't go wrong there.

The site itself gets alot of views per day, but like alot of newer forums, it's takes time to establish a good user base of posters.  This is just how it works on the internet and have seen it many times.  Minnesota fly fishing has only been running for about 2 years and it wasn't even my goal to see where it is right now.  I would think in another couple of years it will see a good forum user base, it just takes alot of time, but I'm not in a hurry.    I'm no expert in fly fishing by any means, I just post on my past experiences and hopefully it helps someone out when they go out on there next fly fishing outing and probably others probably feel the same way.  There is no EXACT rule on how to fly fish, the concept is the same (fly line, fly reel, fly rod, flies) but a thousand different ways to do it.

Maybe a scud?  Could be fished under an indicator or something like that.
Just a thought.

Tricos, yes.  Midges and BWO start to appear more in the fall months, especially when the weather gets a bit cool and rainy like it has of late.  If the water is off a bit, I'd rip some streamers also.

Midges and scuds are a staple winter season combination.
