This is the Vermillion River that flow into the Mississippi near the St. Croix River correct?  Because there is another Vermillion which is in the northern part of the state, which I have been on for a canoe trip years ago.  I haven't been on the Vermillion down south though.

Anyone have any ideas about this river?

Yeah, the one near Farmington. I was just wondering if it good fishing, just to have another option for a close to home, after work place, besides always heading toward Wisconsin.

it's actually a fun river to fish. stay near farmington, down by hastings not as good, unless ya want catfish, but upstream you might come across some big brownies. the dnr did a shock count last year and came across some monster browns.

actually fished it yesterday. too high, too stained, too windy, but boy it felt good to be out. got a few hits, but didn't land anything, nymphs and buggers. seems a lot of backwater areas have been flodded as well. i did see a couple of bruiser brownies scatter from structures when i stepped in., encouraging. met a couple of fine gents who were also out enjoying the sun, forget their names(mine is josh) and if they happen to read this, how'd ya do?

In Farmington there is public access at Rambling River Park.  I have fished it with little success.  I would  try to swing something like a minnow immation  into undercut banks or cast down and strip up along the side.

Good Luck

a friend and I fished the vermillion yesterday in the afternoon. nothing good happening one brown. probably walked a mile and a half. we got in i believe at the same parking lot off the bridge as said above. water was pretty merky though. we drove down hwy 50 heading west and checked out a few other spots but nothing doing.
