No open water in the rivers.  But you can still try the mouths of the rivers.  But nothing puts a damper on your fly fishing then your guides freezing and you line freezing in mid flight.   About the only guys you see now are shore fisherman throwing bait on the bottom or on floats.

I'm waiting for the winter trout season down in SE Minnesota to get my fix.  Just too cold up here!

Poncethefish, have you ever fished the Mississippi River near Monticello?  Thats looks like a very cool place to fly fish during the winter when we get a little bit warmer temps.  I'll be heading down that way when the weather forecast perdicts some warmer temps, sun and no wind.  I gotta try it at least once.

Wow, I've never seen those pictures before.  I've been to the WW many times and can relate to a lot of those pics.  That's some major flooding for that area.  From some of the pics, it's looks like the water was even higher than when those pics were taken, insane.  Now I understand why the DNR would close the park.

I guess it's good old mother nature trying to pick up after us and start reclaiming what was hers.  I'm sure this won't be the last time a major flood will happen along the river systems.  The loss of forest surrounding the river systems and all that farming land might have something to do with that, but that another topic.
