Baptism River?
 (United States)
Any of you north shore guys fish the Baptism at all?  I'm thinking of doing a backpacking/fishing trip to the Tettegouche with some buddies, but I wanted to find out if the Baptism is good for anything besides waterfalls and scenery.  Let me know about this one, or if you have other river/camping recommendations for this area they would certainly be welcome.  Thanks fellahs.

Hiya Flyhammer,

That is one stream on the Northshore I haven't fished on.  Been by there quite a few times, but mainly for the scenery .  I know my pops used to tell me stories of him and his dad (my grandpa) that took camping/hiking trips on the Baptism River.  They would hike and fish upstream, camp out, then hike and fish back downstream.  I know my pops and grandpa did some fly fishing, but I can't remember if they did on these trips or not.  But I do know they caught quite a few fish, but that was years ago.  My post was more of a FYI post , sorry I couldn't help your out more.  Someone on this site must know more info.

you really have to go upstream for brookies. we hiked in a few years ago and even then i found we weren't quite far enough upstream. we had one of the backpack in sites right on the river. the river was full of crayfish, too full, no predators. i have fished the mouth in early sept and have seen steelies, and pinks. me and my boys will be up there the 1st weekend in sept also, hoping to land a few pinks. good luck. get yourself a copy of the dnrs "north shore trout streams". i think you can get ala pdf online. it shows some access points and tells what each piece of water holds.
