Went out for a little bit with my kids and wife to get the boat out and enjoy a little bit of the warm weather. Of course I brought my fly rod along. We went to small bass lake not to far from Duluth. It's a clear water lake with visibility down to 6 or so. The sunnies were up on their beds and looks like it's near the end for them. There were lots of bass cruising the shallow midday, no big ones, mainly between 10-14". It was fun sight fishing for them. It's neat to see their reaction to different flies I thru at them. I got most to bite on a smaller crawfish imitation. I didn't have a small minnow imitation, that might have good as well. I caught some 16"+ fish on some docks and off of some wood that had plenty of shade and deeper water. Again off of my crawfish pattern.
The shoreline out to the first major weeds was were all the fish activity was going on. Crappies roaming around the first weeds in a little bit deeper water, big northerns cruising the same area. Bullheads were sitting on the bottom between the weeds and the shore line. Bass and sunnies closer to shore, just alot of activity. If I had my 5wt, i would have tried for some panfish for supper, but didn't have it with. Even perch were in the mix, roaming the just outside the weedlines.
Tight lines and be safe out there.
